Working in Australia

Sapphire Technologies

In order to work in Australia you must be either an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid work permit. If you have any of the above then please register with us and make a note of your status. If you require a visa or need further information, then please read the information on this page.

Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs
The first and most important advice we can offer is to visit the Australian Government Immigration Website where you will find detailed information on different types of visas and details on becoming a citizen.

Before you leave
If you are planning on working during your visit to Australia, then before you leave home, you need to apply for a work visa at the Australian Consulate or Embassy in your country of origin.

Holiday work in Australia
If you plan to holiday in Australia and to work while you are here, you will need some kind of working visa. Australia has arrangements with the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Ireland, which allow young citizens of these countries to apply for working holidays in Australia. Applicants from other countries may be considered if there is a prospect of worthwhile cultural exchange.

You can do any kind of temporary or casual work, but full-time work for longer than three months with one employer is not allowed. This is because the main purpose of your visit is to holiday and travel. Working holiday visas permit multiple entries to Australia and allow a total period of stay of up to 12 months.

Sponsorship and Overseas Applicants
In the event we do require specialist skills from overseas, we will advertise this within the vacancy on our jobs page. Otherwise, you must be either an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid work permit. We are unable to assist you unless you meet these requirements.

Documents
If you have arranged a working permit and have found a job in Australia, the next step is to obtain a Tax File Number (TFN) from the Australian Taxation Office and an Employment Declaration Form from your employer.
